It’s exactly three weeks until Thanksgiving, and you know what that means—the holiday season is officially upon us! The time has finally come to visit with family and friends, enjoy the chilly weather, eat some good food, and most importantly, think about what we are thankful for. We tend to not sit around and think about the things and people we appreciate until Thanksgiving Day, but with the rough couple of years we’ve had, I think it’s important that we count our blessings every single day. There is so much to be thankful for, but in case you need some reminders, keep on reading!
Family and Friends
I know, I know—family and friends are probably most people’s go-to when thinking about what they are thankful for, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be at the very top of this list! Whether you have more family than friends, or vice-versa, think about the support system you are fortunate to have, and how they lift you up. Think about where you might be without them. Think about who your go-to person is when you need a laugh, a shoulder to cry on, or are in need of advice and wisdom. And most importantly, upon reflection, let these people know how much they mean to you! You will be sure to make them feel very special and loved, and your words will brighten their day, week, month, and year!
Your Home
It is so important to be reminded how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads, as we all know that not everyone shares that privilege. Whether it’s snacking from the fridge stocked with your favorite foods, having the means to take a relaxing bath at the end of the day, or sleeping safe and sound in your bed every night, you are so fortunate to be able to enjoy these things in the place you call home.
Your Passions and Hobbies
Do you have a favorite way to spend your downtime? Do you have a genuine passion for your field of work? You might not immediately think to feel grateful for having these interests, but you absolutely should! A lot of passions and hobbies may require equipment or schooling in order to partake, and we should be thankful we have the means to perfect and enjoy our craft, whatever that may be.
Our Planet
We may not be quick to recognize the beauty of the earth from our bedroom window, or even en route to work, because we see the same sights every day. Nevertheless, taking some time each day to realize how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful world is definitely something worth pondering. Be it the sunrises and sunsets, the vast and seemingly endless oceans, or the breathtaking sights you may have seen in other countries, thinking about how lucky you are to live on this earth will be sure to offer some new perspectives.
As you can see, for all of the hardships that exist in this world, there is just as much love and beauty. Our society tends to focus on the negative, but as we wrap up 2021 (I can’t believe I’m already writing that!), let's take these last two months to appreciate all of the goodness there is around us, because there will always be something to be thankful for if you look for it.
